Baths

how many times a week does a dog need a bath?
The question of how often to bath depends on your dogs breed, skin and coat type/condition, activity level, age, and housing situation. In addition to your dogs needs are your personal preferences of how you want your dog to look and feel. Some Pet Parents are happy as long as their dog’s coat is brushed out and mat free while other Pet Parents want their furry companions to be clean and fresh smelling so that Fido can cuddle on the sofa without leaving a mess behind.
Bathing routines will vary from once a week for dogs with an oily and or smelly coat to once every 10 – 12 weeks for a dog with a dry to normal coat.
The only rules to remember are to brush the coat before bathing and always use a shampoo designed for use on dogs, human shampoos are not properly ph balanced for dogs and can dry a dog’s skin and coat. Be careful to rinse the coat well after shampooing as shampoo left in the coat can dry the skin and cause irritation.

For a professional evaluation of your dog’s skin and coat stop in and talk to a professional PetStylist. In addition to the professional services they offer, a professional PetStylist will be happy to provide you with the information on what to do and the right products for you to care for your dogs coat properly at home.
