What a morning! I'm surprised Lucky can keep her lashes open after this morning's satellite media tour. That's right Lucky and Wendy Diamond broadcasted live to news stations all across the country to talk about pet adoption and the importance of pet care in the winter! We spoke to news stations (and anchors) all over, including: Josh on WLIO-TV ABC in Lima, Ohio (my home state!); Kristine on KIMT-TV CBS in Mason City, Iowa; Susie on WYLE-TV IND in Huntsville, Alabama; Marylyn and Leslie on KHGI-TV in Kearney, Nebraska and other stations from Palm Springs to Tallahassee. For once Lucky wasn't the only pet there. Helping us out were two adoptees from the New York Humane Society: an adorable mutt named Toby and a cute tabby named Blixton. Taking care of pets during the winter is very important. During the winter you should keep your cat indoors at all times. When your dog is outside, keep them on a leash (especially during a snowstorm) because the snowy weather covers up your dog's familiar scent. After the dog comes inside, make sure to wipe off the salt from its belly and paws. Never shave your dog during the winter… you can even increase its diet during these winter months to ensure they have an added layer of fat and will keep their coat healthy. Never leave your dog or cat in a car, even if it's for a minute. Of course Lucky would never get left in a car because I take her everywhere including our 2 nd Annual Toys for Dogs event that took place earlier this week. The event was a way to get every sheltered dog a toy this holiday season. National CBS weatherman for The Early Show, Dave Price served as our celebrity Santa. The price was right: by bringing a toy for a homeless dog, owners and their pets could take a picture with Santa. There to see if the pets had been naughty or nice was Price's own adopted dog, Chance, who is sometimes featured on his weather program and known throughout the country as "Chance the Weatherdog." Chance was rescued from a junkyard in the Bronx and quickly rose to fame, leaving Lucky pining to get in his good graces. Our celebrity elves were there to help spread holiday cheer. Good Day New York anchor Jodi Applegate brought her own adopted Golden, Maizy and child stars Rachel Cody (of Disney's hit Enchanted) and Josh Flitter ( Ace Ventura 3) also stopped by to join in on the fun. Other surprise guest included Bachelor star Prince Lorenzo Borghese and Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby. Lucky knows all about being in the good graces of a councilwoman!By the end of the night we helped raise a ton of toys for sheltered dogs and got some great coverage from WireImage, Getty Images, FOX 5, The New York Daily News, The New York Post and other media venues. Starting off the week with a big event was a little exhausting for Lucky, but she's a trooper and decided she would go to the Golden Globe nominated The Great Debaters premiere, produced by Oprah Winfrey and Harpo Films. When Lucky was gobbling up all the food at the pre party she was relieved that she decided to come after all, not to mention that she got to chat with Boston Legal's Candice Bergen who chatted to us about her Basset Hound, Dickles. The movie stars Oscar winners Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker as well as newcomer Denzel Whitaker who ironically has to relation to either performer. I personally loved the film, but Lucky seemed to doze off and had the nerve to snore during the film! That's the last premiere I take Lucky to…
Hope you have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
