One Small Step For Man... Four Little Steps For Dog-kind

It's been a warm and busy week in January, so warm Lucky is begging for a haircut in the middle of winter! First off Lucky and I would like to thank all of the readers who voted for this year's list of Most Eligible Pets. Much like the Golden Globes, we didn't have a huge awards ceremony, but all the winners (and their owners) were very pleased to be honored. We heard from Roadie and Loco's mom (Miley Cyrus) that they are so happy with their titles that Lucky might find herself with Hannah Montana tickets. I guess canine-networking is more important than one would think.

This week I spoke with my honorable cousin Peter Diamandis (Diamandis is Greek for Diamond, so who knows… maybe we are cousins) who is the founder the XPRIZE Foundation as well as the Zero Gravity Corporation, a private company based out of Las Vegas committed to offering weightless flights to those who dream of being in zero gravity (Zero-G). Those who have already taken part in the weightless experience include Penn and Teller, Martha Stewart, Stephan Hawking and Burt Rutan. Peter told me that maybe Lucky could be the first dog to go up with the Zero-G program… imagine Lucky gravity-free! Peter is going on Good Morning America next week to talk about Zero-G, and he is going to check with the FCC regulations to try and get Lucky in flight with Diane Sawyer! Lucky better come back alive! If you're interested in the program, the cost comes in at an affordable $3,675. Cost for pets? I'm not quite sure if it's the same.

This week Lucky and I also went to two special screenings. The first was New York Theatre director Lizzie Gottlieb's documentary, Today's Man. Gottlieb is the daughter of legendary New Yorker editor Robert Gottlieb, and actress Maria Tucci. The film is a study of Lizzie's brother, Nicky Gottlieb, who was once a child genius and grew up to develop Asperger syndrome. AS is a mild form of autism that leaves those who suffer from it socially awkward, clumsy, anxious and depressed, but Nicky's story was a remarkable and touching one. There for the screening was New York gem, Sarah Jessica Parker. Parker has recently launched her new clothing-line called "Bitten," which offers affordable and stylish clothing under Parker's own manifesto that reads: "it is every woman's inalienable right to have a pulled-together, stylish, confidant wardrobe with money left over to live." While the name seems somewhat canine-inspired, I was just glad that it wasn't called "Biting," because I didn't want Lucky to think it was a suggestion. The second film Lucky and I went to was a private screening of U2 3D, an IMAX experience of U2 in concert. I loved seeing Bono and the gang up close on a gigantic screen, although Lucky was complaining that Bono's German Sheppard's Fanny and Angel weren't featured in the film. She was also mad that IMAX didn't provide 3D goggles that fit her frame, but aren't dogs colorblind anyway?

Come back next week to hear about Lucky and my trip to the Sundance Film Festival!
