Dog dance! Sundance!

Someone sometime once said never to do a movie if there are kids or animals in it, because they will always steal the show. Certainly true  when Lucky is around!  Well this week started off in Los Angeles where Lucky and I visited the set of the upcoming movie Hotel For Dogs, a movie that features both children and dogs. Lucky and I lounged on set with young stars Emma Roberts (of Nancy Drew, also Julia Robert’s niece) andJake Austin. The film also stars Lisa Kudrow, Kevin Dillon and Don Cheadle.  Lucky and I learned that 65% of the dogs in the movie were homeless, 14 of which were rescued by the crew itself. Lucky assured me that rescues are much better suited for film and television because, well, she’s a rescue too. Interestingly enough when she met Mark Forbes, the biggest animal trainer and coordinator in Hollywood (who has worked on animal hits like Evan Almighty, Because of Winn-Dixie and 101 Dalmatians) he said Lucky maybe too much of a diva on-set … (personally I just don’t want any more people to recognize her). The dog star of the film is Cosmo, a Jack Russell Terrier, who was adopted from Jack Russell Terrier Rescue just 6 months ago. Unlike Lucky, Cosmo wasn’t a diva onset even though he had to go through extensive hair and makeup. The crew dyed (vegetable dye safe for dogs) Cosmo’s white ears brown so Cosmo looked scruffy! Once Lucky saw that, she decided to stay away from the makeup table. Instead, she cruised around the craft service table looking for scraps.
Lucky and I went from the Paramount set in Hollywood to Park City, Utah for the 27th Annual Sundance Film Festival. As soon as Lucky and I got there it seemed like one star after another in the cold, snowy temperatures. Lucky and I hung out with Colin Farrell whose film, Kicken It, was playing at Sundance and also saw Jason Reitman, the director of the new breakout indie hit, Juno. Later we saw Dylan Walsh of Nip/Tuck who we could hardly recognize without his lab coat. He’s in a new romantic comedy, Just Add Water, which also stars Danny DeVito, Anika Nani-Rose and Superbad’s Jonah Hill. The more and more I looked around, Lucky and I began wondering “Where are the dogs?” Finally at Marc Ecko’s house(an animal lover in his own right, Rhinos are the logo to his line, Ecko) we ran into Adrian Grenier, but he was without his rescued pup, Honeybee. Luckily, Lucky got a little attention when we attended the Friends of Animals Benefit at the Main Event Red Carpet Lounge & Green Suite, sponsored by some great animal providers including Scooter’s Friends, Inc., Jax & Bones, iPaw LC and Poochie.  It was great to see Animal Fair Magazine alumni everywhere, but they were all sans dogs! Jessica Alba was there with boyfriend (and father-to-be) Cash Warren, who was promoting hisnew documentary Made in America. Lucky felt like the center of attention at a benefit supporting animals, which, for Lucky, made the trip to Utah worth it! However she certainly did not seem to be mad that I didn’t take her skiing( they don’t make doggy skis (yet)!
