This week jet setting seemed to be an appropriate thing to do to celebrate the launch of the newest issue of Animal Fair, our annual travel issue, on newsstands now. But before we left our humble NYC, we stopped by Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary’s Komedy for Karma because Lucky loves both comedy and farm animals, I’m just always a sucker for a good cause. We ran into our dear friend Janeane Garofalo who was seen without her old golden mix Dewey. Garofalo was there as one of the performers for the event in a list that also included Louis CK, Dave Attell and Lucky’s favorite canine comedian, Triumph the insult comedy dog. Proceeds went to help pay for raising costs of gas, food and medicated for the special sanctuary.
So Lucky and I were off to LA for a special dinner to honor our cover girl (and boy) on the new issue, the funny, charming and spectacular Amanda Bynes and Charlie, her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Once Lucky and I arrived in LA, Lucky tore off her coat so she could soak in the West Coast sun – she’s still bugging me about getting sun doggles too so she can look like all the LA dogs. We attended the 22nd Annual Genesis Awards The awards show was started by Gretchen Wyler years ago to pay homage to positive progress with animal issues in the media. As soon as we got there, Lucky and started to spot many familiar animal savvy stars such as Eric Roberts, Hal Sparks, Emily Deschanel, Hayden Pantierre, Anderson Cooper, Debra Wilson and president of the Humane Society, Wayne Pacelle among many others. Lucky pranced around the ceremony barking “remember me?” to many of the celebs… but she took no award home but Hayden did take home the top prize for her continual work on bringing animal protection issues to mainstream.
Our next stop was the premiere for Nim’s Island the new adventure film starring Jodie Foster and new child star sensation Abigail Breslin. Lucky was trying to get in with Foster because she’s a huge Silence of the Lambs fan, but when Lucky found out Foster only had a cat – she knew it was never meant to be. Breslin on the other hand has two dogs and a turtle, but she was busy talking about the 400 pound sea lions she worked with in the film – picture Lucky at that size!
When it was time for our dinner with Amanda Bynes we were happy to finally focus on the animals. Bynes brought her Prince Cavalier King Charles, Charlie to our Doggy Fiesta at the Velvet Margarita restaurant. Carlos and Ava the owners brought their Chihuahua Margarita. We also got to see our favorite gangster… gossip gangster that is, Perez Hilton, with his adorable Goldendoodle, Teddy. Susie Castillo was there with her Chihuahua Lupe, Kenny Davitian (of Borat fame) just adopted a dog but decided to leave him home. Lucky wonders why she doesn’t see that many celebrities in New York as she does in Hollywood – I tell her its for her own good, she needs to keep a level head when she’s in Hollywood.
