Spring has sprung, New York has seen almost 70 degree temperatures, Lucky got a haircut and it's time to do some spring cleaning! I'm not talking about changing Pasha's litter box or anything, I'm talking about mental cleaning and taking a bite out of the coveted biscuit of success!
This week Lucky and I joined a flock of women at the home of Fox News analyst and former Westchester District Attorney and Judge, Jeanine Pirro in a night hosted by Amy Rosenblum, former Senior Producer at NBC's The Today Show. Unfortunately for Lucky, Rosenblum left her luscious Chinese Crested Powdewpuff, Lily, at home. The night was about their new venture, Seminars for Success, and featured Today Show experts, sex therapist and author Dr. Laura Berman; Money expert and Today Show financial editor Jean Chatzky and authoress and nutritionist Joy Bauer.
Well I learned a lot about money, sex, power and success, Lucky was wondering where the dog experts were. Lucky did keep herself entertained, discussing politics with Pirro's two poodles, Mikimoto also called Mickey (her black poodle) and Dartina, also called Gem (her white poodle). When Chatzky saw all the puppy politicos chatting she told us she wished she would have brought her Cockapoo, Teddy. Chatzky was able to give us a few tips on animals. "I would recommend that people invest in pet insurance. It's usually about $30 a month and it's become pretty popular over the years." She also commented on the recent trend to leave pets money after passing. "I am aware of dogs being left large sums of money in wills but I don't think dogs should have bank accounts. Personally, for me, there are enough bills and paper statements coming into the house that we have to manage!"
Speaking of Saturday Night Live, this weekend we went to a very special night for our dear friend Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, played by Robert Smigel, at the Night of Too Many Stars: An Overbooked Concert for Autism Education. We heard exclusively that night that Triumph’s grandfather, celebrated dentist Dr. Smigel, is soon to be launching his own dog toothpaste line. Maybe it’ll finally do the trick to get the cigar smoke stains out of Triumph’s teeth.
The showbrought in just what it’s named promised, too many stars with all the proceeds going to schools and outreach programs for children with autism. Many people might not know about how some dogs can provide therapy and service for children with autism in programs like the Autism Service Dogs of America (autismservicedogsofamerica.com). Maybe Lucky and Triumph aren’t ready to participate but many dogs across the country are and they’re making a big difference.
Lucky and I laughed with comedienne Sarah Silverman who told us about her cast-mate on Comedy Central’s The Sarah Silverman Show, Doug, a Pug mix from Pet Orphans of Southern California. Silverman told us that Doug, whose original name was Duck, is named after not Matt Damon nor Ben Affleck, but fellow comedian Doug Benson.
We also spotted Adam Sandler, Tina Fey, Jon Stewart, Conan O'Brien, Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Will Arnett, Amy Poehler, and Kelsey Grammer, who was raving about his Basenji who just turned 13 . Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine told us that he has a thing for giving girl dogs guy names, mentioning hisfemale Golden Retriever with a male name, Frankie. Could you imagine how Lucky would react if I called her Fred? We also spotted Richard Belzer with his dog Bebe and heard from Saturday Night Live funnyman Andy Samberg that he is currently petless, but once had a turtle named Squirt because the minute he got the turtle… it peed on him.
