Last week Lucky was not feeling lucky, so she missed the Sleuth premiere at the Paris Theatre. I was hoping that Ringo would be there. Oh, not the drumming Beatle, but Jude Law's Bichon Frise (or rather his daughter's Bichon Frise, he assured me). Other stars in attendance included Michael Caine, Bebe Neuwirth, Joan Collins and George Segal. The after party was at Kobe Club where the Kobe beef I was told is magnifique (I personally would not know as I am a lifelong vegetarian). Lucky was bummed that I didn't bring her a Kobe doggy bag. Lucky was back in action a few nights later for a special sneak peek of A Table in Heaven. The movie follows restaurateur Sirio Maccioni and his three culinary sons, Mauro, Marco and Mario from the closing of Le Cirque (lecirque.com) to its re-opening two years later with clips of their high-profile clientele, including Woody Allen, Robert De Niro, and Rudy Giuliani. Marco, the youngest and only available Maccioni, left his two dogs, Mostro and Darla, at home, or maybe at the restaurant where they are always hanging out. Lucky, a good friend of the two pups, can always score a seat no matter if there’s a month long waiting list. Lucky was the only dog in attendance, as usual. Lucky and I are all about animals so we ventured to Animal Planet's memorial party for the matron of meerkats, Flower, at SoHo House – known for her Meerkat Manor fame (animal.discovery.com/). It was a touching memorial party, although she lived a long time for her species, her life was taken by a snake. We spent the majority of the evening searching high and low for a single meerkat. Shouldn't her family have showed up for her own memorial party? Why was there no meerkat chorus singing her favorite tunes? Where was her ex-lover Mozart the debonair Meerkat? I suppose SoHo House is a far ways away from South Africa, Flower's birthplace and too long a distance for the cast to fly. By Saturday October 13th Lucky was a little tired from all the celebs so we dropped by the Animal Fair Magazine sponsored My Dog Loves Central Park Country Fair (sponsored by (centralparkpaws.net). Lucky wanted to stop by the open auditions for David Letterman's "stupid pet tricks," but much to her mother's chagrin, she doesn't do anything stupid. Over 7,500 people and their dogs showed up and we judged the Best of Park award, which went to Dulci, an adorable Dachshund. Sunday October 14th I took an afternoon off from hanging out with Lucky to attend New York's largest cat show, the CFA-IAMS Cat Championship (cfa-iams-cat-championship.org) at Madison Square Garden. There were 325 competitors representing 41 breeds. Pasha, my rescued Russian Blue, opted out of the competition. Thank dog because I couldn’t dare to tell him breed rescues are not qualified to compete. The winner was Tess, a Japanese Bobtail, who ran through the obstacle course faster than any other feline (or possibly canine could have). When I asked owners Karen Bishop and Jill Archibald what celebrity they would compare Tess to, they said "Angelina Jolie [of course,] because she's frisky and playful!" The top three winners not only won the acclaim, but a years supply of Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Litter and Iams cat food and also a coveted guest spot on Regis and Kelly – an honor not to be taken lightly. Personally, I think Dr. Elsey should include someone to come in everyday to clean the precious cat litter box for a year. Well Lucky and I have been in a spooky quagmire, with the end of October quickly approaching, what in the world will Lucky be for Halloween!?
