Bee Movie Premiere

October 29th, From horses to Jerry Seinfeld, this week Lucky and I have been busy as, well, bees! It began with the release of our annual Travel Issue of Animal Fair Magazine featuring songstress LeAnn Rimes on the cover. We joined the festivities at Ivanka Trump's 2007 Breeders' Cup World Championships Kickoff Celebration. Lucky had the time of her life being coddled by world famous jockeys including Edgar Prado, Johnny Velazquez and Javier Castellano - though she was getting a little jealous that the horses were getting all the attention. Lucky was delighted to hear that Edgar Prado, the former jockey of the late Kentucky Derby winner Barado, has two dogs and he enjoys the company of stallions and canines alike. Liz Clamen hosted the event, and there was an unveiling of artist Susan Sommer-Luarca's Horse of the Year (a divine work featuring famed racing horses) to be auctioned on eBay to benefit the NTRA's Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (www.ntra.com/).The next night Lucky and I stopped by the Pet Project Alliance's kickoff fundraiser to support their new documentary Lost and Found, a spectacular story about challenged children and the impact that rescued dogs have on their lives. (For more info, check out www.petprojectalliance.org). We couldn't miss buzzing by Jerry Seinfeld's Bee Movie premiere. The dress-code was a strict black and yellow only, and as usual, no dogs allowed. Knowing they wouldn't turn a bee down at the Bee Movie premiere, I dressed Lucky in a charming yet tasteful bee costume. Once we got there, I was afraid to show off Lucky the bee – so cute she might upstage star Jerry Seinfeld himself. Hidden in my bag, I made it up to her by sneaking her the delicious flank steak that was given in the yellow tin "doggy bag." She was in-dognito! We ran into dear friend and past Animal Fair Premiere cover girl Renee Zellweger (to see her on our very first issue with Dylan, her late Golden Retriever, visit www.animalfair.com).Other cast members in attendance included Chris Rock and Matthew Broderick. Lucky and I had to forget the buzz and get some "zzzs" because we woke up very very very early to do Today in New York Show. Lucky and I showed off some fabulous costumes with the help of the dogs from the Humane Society of New York The theme seemed to be The Wizard of Oz with a Cindy the Pomeranian as Dorothy, Shadow the Chihuahua as the Scare Crow and Jax, the Poodle-mix as The Tin Man. Lucky, who finally got to show off her bee costume, tried to organize the dogs to howl the chorus of "Follow the Yellow Brick Road." (Want to help these pets find their way? Visit www.humanesocietyny.org/ ). Lucky and I met the dazzling Thelma Houston whose upbeat, Studio 54-era cover of Don't Leave Me This Way is an all-time bark-along favorite of Lucky's. Lucky got real lucky when I lost my cell phone and we girls enjoyed some well needed relaxation time before our big Halloween Pet Costume Party. Maybe she thought my BlackBerry was just another chew toy? I do want to thank my eight year old niece and San Francisco correspondent, Morgan, who covered San Francisco's 14 th annual Pet Pride Day to benefit Animal Care and Control (www.animalshelter.sfgov.org ). While she is shy at her young age, I assured her she's 45 in dog years, which means she is old enough to talk to anyone! Lucky heard from Morgan's rescue pup Bruno that Morgan did a fabulous job.
