For some, Halloween might be a night of ghouls, ghosts, and goblins. For me and Lucky it was more like Pomeranians, Pekinese, Golden Retrievers, Mutts and Pugs! Our 7th Annual Pet Costume Party was a stunning success. Loads of animals showed up, dressed in their Halloween finery. All the pet costumes seemed to come in trendy twos. We had Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick with their mutt dressed as the factory joined by fabulous canine duos such as Lucy and Desi, Shih Tzu’s as Fred and Wilma and Ginger and a Yorkie as MaryAnn. The crowd favorite was owner Andrea Smith dressed as Little Red Riding Hood and her gorgeous German Sheppard dressed as the Big Bad Wolf dressed as Little Red's sick old grandmother. A pet in a double costume! Some other spectacular costumes ranged from a Metrocard and a milk carton to a golden Dachshund as Britney Spears and a naughty Chihuahuapup dressed as a drug mule! We had a special tribute from Triumph the insult comic dog, and celebrity guests and pet costume judges included Richard Belzer, cast members of Broadway's Hairspray, Extra's A.J. Calloway, Juliet Huddy from The Morning Show With Mike and Juliet, fashionista designer Marc Bouwer, and ABC's Bachelor Rome heartthrob Prince Lorenzo Borghese. Lucky, the event and I got some coverage from The Insider, Extra, FOX, and forbes.com, and while we searched high and low for Mayor Bloomberg,he was nowhere to be found, but all the money raised went towards the Mayor Alliance for NYC's Animals. The night was such a smash, by the time Halloween actually rolled by, Lucky said "let sleeping dogs lie," so she stayed in. Halloween isn't the best holiday for dogs anyway, so we let my cat Pasha pass out all the candy. Before we knew it, Lucky and I were off to Los Angeles to attend Actors and Others for Animal's Celebration of Caring Celebrity Toast to Back to You star Fred Willard. The event is their biggest fundraiser of the year to help prevent overpopulation and animal cruelty. While I was thrilled about the delicious gourmet vegetarian menu, Lucky was a little upset that there was no meat. Fred's cat Mittenz was nowhere to be seen. The next day we were off to PAWS/LA 9 th annual art auction, "Rock the Catsbah." Lucky tried to get me to bid on a pet portrait to be taken by Greg Gorman, but I think she just always wants to be photographed, no mater who takes the picture. There was some great art donated by local artists and celebrity hosts included Ugly Betty's Ana Ortiz, the sultry and legendary Ellen Greene from Pushing Daisies and Kathy Joosten of Desperate Housewives. It seems like as soon as Lucky and I got to LA, we had to leave. Now it's back to New York for these ladies and time to gear up for the winter holiday season. Lucky is looking forward to Thanksgiving for a little "gobble gobble." and less "ruff ruff!"
