Gobble gobble gobble, 'tis the season for traveling during the holidays. Let's talk pet travel trips during one of those cross-the-country-to-see-the-family-holidays. If you're flying, don't tranquilize your animal, it's not good for their breathing and my hamper their breath. Make sure their carrier is labeled and they have the proper identification tags with your travel destination in case they (Dog forbid) get separated from you. Try to fly one-way and tell the flight staff you have an animal with you. Make sure to mark their carrier "Live Animal." Also include a frozen dish of water so it won't spill while you're boarding, but it will melt once your pet needs it. If you're arriving at a hotel, make sure they provide proper pet accommodations. Who knows, you might even find a great hotel that has their own catered room service menu for four-legged friends! Lucky and I have been doing lots and lots of traveling and this week we've found ourselves in Cancun for the Cancun International Film Festival. Although it was cold in New York before we left, Lucky got a nice trim so she wouldn't get too hot on the sunny beaches. Cancun is a dream. My docucomedy In Search of Puppy Love played with a number of other great films from all across the world. Dog lover and Bring It On actress Gabrielle Union, who has a Mastiff American bulldog mix named Bubba was honored with the International Humanitarian award at the festival for her work with woman's rights and breast cancer awareness. Her speech floored the whole audience, that woman has such poise! Also saw Material Girls star Haylie Duff (no sight of her Pom Bentley), Cisco Adler, Beau Garrett, mtv's Quddus and Bryan Greenberg. Enjoying time on the beautiful beaches reminded me of giving back. No matter who you are or where you come from, you can always help out causes from around the world. The Cancun Animal Rescue makes sure to help local animals in need. They provide food for those who cannot afford it for their pets and spayed or neuter local strays to control the pet population. They battle animal cruelty and try to rid the area of ignorance to animals. For more information on the Cancun Animal Rescue, visit cancunanimalrescue.org <http://cancunanimalrescue.org> . Soon Lucky and I will be back to New York to prep for Thanksgiving day festivities. Maybe Lucky will make her famous Pumpkin Pie with dog biscuit crust. Table scraps beware, the bigger the meal the happier your dogs will be while crumb cruising! Just a little advice on what not to let your little gobblers eat. We all know chocolate is toxic for dogs, it causes hyperactivity and can easily be linked to death. Don't slip your pooch anything with onions or garlic, they too carry canine toxins leading to anemia. Also stray away from feeding your dog too much broccoli, potato peelings, macadamia nuts, raisins, grapes, peaches and apricots. Phew! I know the list sounds long, but it certainly doesn't exclude turkey!
